There was a Ghost Whisperer episode a few years ago where they discussed the fascination with Vampire Fiction. It revolved around the idea of eternal love. That was a big part of the problem with this. It was such a regimented and rule based version of vampires that it took all the mystery and intrigue out of it. And I get the fact that she likes to create exacting doms but doing a scene like that with someone you just found out can kill you on a whim seemed like a really strange choice. There wasn't anything really groundbreaking but just way too much of a paranormal world that got shoved into the universe that was created in the first book in the series. If it had been hinted at, it might have made the transition not quite so jarring. The dialogue was just bad. Characters talked endlessly about subjects only they cared about. Some more speech restrictions would have been welcome at a few key points. Commas are a wonderful thing, but seemed on hiatus mostly.I am glad I read this one last instead of first.
